The habit to make Good habits are essential for life success. Why? Humans are creatures of habit.

Bad habits lead to failure.

The goal is to form good habits and become a slave to good habits. It is formed when one become accustomed to doing something. It is usually done with no thought after a while because it becomes easy with little or no effort. However, you must determine if the habit is good or bad.

Habits, Routines and Rituals

A routine is also unconsciousness and the difference between a routine and a habit is you can look at a routine as a series of habits that have a specific result. A ritual is a completely different way of performing a task or series of tasks. A ritual is performed with mindfulness and awareness.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness occurs when one mental state is achieved by focusing awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic techniques. For example, it’s hard to slow down and notice things in a busy world. Try to take time to experience your environment with all your senses.

TIPS How To Use Mindfulness To Break Bad Habits

  • Question the patterns developed. Are you trying to keep yourself distracted? Are avoiding something? Why?
  • Write down your goals and keep yourself accountable
  • Take five minutes to connect with yourself and do a mental check-in
  • If you slip up, start again

Mindfulness is important because it’s practices can help to increase our ability to regulate emotions, decrease stress, anxiety and depression, also: focus our attention to observe thoughts and feelings without judgement.

Awareness

Awareness occurs when one knows yourself, understanding your decisions and being conscious of how you behave. For example, someone who knows how he/she behaves in different circumstances.

There are two types of awareness:

  1. Conceptual self-awareness: what we think about ourselves (judgements, evaluations, logical conclusions, anything you can put word to).
  2. Embodied self-awareness: registering various types of inner states

Awareness offers more than hope, it can lead to action.

Discovery of self is the best form of awareness. There are two area to improve:

  • Psychology (Mental State)

Language-speak, hear, see – Physiology-use your body – Focus/beliefs-what you believe to be true

  • Basic Needs (Basic Survival Needs)

Certainty – Uncertainty

Love/Connection

Significance

When looking at your basic needs, they must be met at a high enough level because what’s lacking may be determined if your levels are low in all or different needs. Your psychology will determine how you meet these needs. For example, on a scale of 1-10, significance 3, certainty 4 chances are your feel stressed every day because you cannot provide for yourself and your family. You feel like your life does not matter right now. You must determine what it will take to raise the 3 and 4 to a higher level (the goa is 10). Every human must meet these needs and your mental state will drive these needs. Will this impact your habits-GREATLY!

How To Develop And Increase Awareness

  • Look at yourself objectively
  • Keep a journal
  • Write down goals, plans, priorities
  • Perform daily self-reflection
  • Practice meditation
  • Take personality tests
  • Ask trusted friends to describe you
  • Ask for feedback at work

Awareness is important because when we have a better understanding of ourselves, we can experience ourselves as unique and separate individuals. We become empowered to make changes and build on areas of strength, identity, and area of improvement.

How to determine if a habit is good or bad? Great question!

A good habit is behavior beneficial to one’s physical or mental health. With it comes a high level of discipline and self-control.

Examples:

  • Control weight
  • Improve mood
  • Combats disease
  • Improve longevity
  • Impact good health

A bad habit occurs when a negative behavior pattern is developed.

Examples:

  • Procrastination
  • Overspending
  • Stereotyping
  • Nail-biting
  • Too much time watching television or on computer

Whatever it is, rest assured, habits will play a part in whatever you chose. Now, the question remains, does the habit serve you or keep you at a standstill? Whatever you are drone towards, you may say you become a slave to it, why not make it to good habits rather than bad habits?

The results of good habits will help you:

  • Increase strength
  • Passion arises
  • Ready to face the world
  • Happier despite pain and sorrow
  • React favorable to situations
  • Becomes easy with repetition
  • Begin a new life

When it comes to habits, the only way to get over them is to create another habit. Yes, this is how you replace a bad habit with a good one. There is a process to creating good habits:

  1. Control your body (If you can’t control your body, you can’t control your mind)
  2. Develop the right attitude
  3. List old habits that need to be replaced
  4. Develop the new habit
  5. Determine how to implement the new way consistently for 30 days

The process is simple and doable, but it must be put into practice with a serious mind. Once a good habit is established, it may seem difficult to break because of the new person who emerges out of the ashes. You will not want or need to return.

When good habits become a part of your foundation, life is pleasurable, meaningful, and successful. When things come up suddenly, you can deal with whatever come your way. The difference is, now, you have the discipline to handle it while joyfully enjoying life daily.

Now, it’s time for you to make the call. Are you satisfied with the habits you have created? If not, you are in the right place. That’s if you’re tired of getting the same results with habits that are not serving you to this day. Wait no longer, creating good habits you can achieve!
