Not talking more. Not being articulate. The genuine capacity to make yourself understood and to understand others — which requires presence, honesty, and a willingness to be changed by what you hear.

"The most important part of Communication is not what you say. It is whether what you said is what the other person actually heard." CoachingAndLife 52 Ways Program
Working through a value honestly, seeing where it is genuinely missing and mapping what to do about it, is hard to do entirely alone. That is part of why CoachingAndLife exists. We are built on the idea that people move further together than they do in isolation, with sharper thinking, honest reflection, and real support close by when it is needed. You do not have to work this one out by yourself.
Communication is the value that almost everyone believes they are good at and almost no one has examined carefully. Most people have never had a real conversation about how they communicate — they have simply developed patterns over decades and assumed those patterns are just who they are. But Communication is a learnable skill, and the first step is honest self-examination.
The most common failure in Communication is the gap between intent and impact. You meant to be direct and it landed as aggressive. You meant to be careful and it landed as evasive. You meant to show care and it landed as interference. That gap, between what you intended and what the other person experienced, is where most relationship difficulties live.
Use this session when the same misunderstandings keep happening. When you feel unheard in a relationship that matters. When your Communication seems to produce the opposite of what you intend. When you want to understand the difference between communicating and performing communication.
"Real Communication is not just about what you transmit. It is about the quality of attention you bring to what the other person is actually trying to say." CoachingAndLife 52 Ways Program © Berit Ladefoged
They do not assume their message landed. They ask, "what is your read on this?", not because they distrust the other person, but because they know how easily meaning slips between sender and receiver. That habit prevents an enormous number of costly misunderstandings.
They are genuinely waiting for the other person to finish not because they are patient, but because they know they cannot hear what is being said while they are constructing their reply. That quality of listening is rare and the people on the receiving end feel it immediately.
Both are speaking. Both feel like they are communicating. But no one is landing. Every conversation leaves both people feeling less understood than when it started. That is not a Communication problem — it is an attention problem dressed in the clothes of Communication.
To someone who values articulate speech, a person who expresses themselves clearly and compellingly can look like an excellent communicator. But the most gifted speaker in the room is not necessarily communicating at all if they are not genuinely attending to what the other person is actually saying and receiving.
To someone who values verbal fluency, a person who speaks rarely and briefly can seem uncommunicative. But the person who speaks little and listens fully is often communicating more accurately, and receiving more real information, than the person who fills every silence with words.
It requires two things working simultaneously: the honesty to say what you actually mean, and the presence to hear what the other person is actually saying. Both are harder than they sound, and most people are only practising one of them at any given time.
Think about the last time this value was fully present in your life. What did it feel like and what did it make possible? Now think about where it is absent today. Write down the difference between those two states as specifically as you can.
When does this value show up in you naturally and without effort? When do you suppress it because it feels unsafe or too much? Notice the gap between those two answers. That gap is where this week’s work lives.
If this value were fully alive in you, what would change at work? What would change at home? What decision that you have been avoiding would suddenly become clear? Be specific. Generalities do not move anything.
This value is not an end in itself. It is a door. When you live it fully, what does it open? What relationships become easier? What version of yourself shows up that is not yet fully present?
Do not soften this. Where in your life right now is the absence of this value creating friction, distance, or stagnation? Name it precisely. The clearer you are about the cost, the more motivated you will be to do the actual work this week.
Watch for this: you are mid-conversation and already forming your reply instead of hearing what is actually being said. Real Communication is staying with the other person's words a beat longer than feels natural, before you respond.
This is a guided conversation, not a quiz. The AI will open warmly, ask you real questions, and follow your answers. There are no right responses. Speak from where you actually are today, not from who you think you should be. The conversation will take 10 to 20 minutes and it will go at your pace.
