Week 6 of 52   Values Coaching Program   CoachingAndLife
Love.
Not the feeling. The decision to remain fully present for another person.

Love as a value is not what you feel in the easy moments. It is what you choose in the difficult ones — the active, ongoing decision to show up honestly for the people who matter most.

This session takes 20 to 30 minutes   Find a quiet space   No right answers

Love — CoachingAndLife 52 Ways

"Love that only appears when it is convenient is not love. It is comfort. Real love is what remains when comfort is not available."   CoachingAndLife   52 Ways Program

Working through a value honestly, seeing where it is genuinely missing and mapping what to do about it, is hard to do entirely alone. That is part of why CoachingAndLife exists. We are built on the idea that people move further together than they do in isolation, with sharper thinking, honest reflection, and real support close by when it is needed. You do not have to work this one out by yourself.

Opening reflection
Who in your life receives the most careful, honest version of you — and who receives what is left over?

Love as most people experience it is reactive rather than chosen. It surges when things are going well, fades when they are difficult, and gets confused with the performance of love, the gestures, the occasions, the declarations, rather than the daily practice of it. The daily practice is quieter and more demanding.

The hardest version of Love is the one directed at people who are currently disappointing you, difficult to be around, or asking more than you feel you have to give. That is also the version that tells you the most about whether what you feel is love or whether it is a version of love that depends on the other person behaving in a way that makes it easy.

Use this session when your most important relationships feel like obligations. When you love someone but cannot find the energy to show it. When you want to understand the difference between the Love you feel and the Love the people around you actually experience receiving from you.

"The people you love most are watching how you treat them when you are tired, under pressure, and have nothing left. That is the version of Love that shapes them." CoachingAndLife   52 Ways Program   © Berit Ladefoged

How this value shows up in real life
Love, seen in the moments that matter most.
In relationship   Love in use
The partner who stays honest

When the relationship is hard, they do not withdraw or perform. They stay honest: about how they feel, about what they need, about what is not working. They trust the relationship enough to bring the real thing to it. That trust is Love in its most demanding form.

With family   Love as presence
The parent who repairs

When they get it wrong — lose patience, say something they regret, fail to show up the way they intended — they come back. They acknowledge it. They try again. The repair is Love. Children do not need perfect parents. They need parents who come back.

When it is missing   Distance
The person who loves in theory

They feel love, they intend love, they would do anything for the people they care about. But in the daily texture of those relationships, the conversations, the attention, the presence, there is a gap between what they feel and what the other person experiences. Love that is not expressed is invisible.

How we misread each other
Love, seen differently depending on where you are standing.
A loving person looks dependent.

To someone who values independence and self-sufficiency, a person who prioritises relationships, who makes time and space for the people they love, who is genuinely affected by other people's experiences, can look emotionally dependent. But the capacity to love deeply is not dependence. It is one of the clearest signs of internal security.

The independent person looks strong.

To someone who values connection, a person who keeps emotional distance, who prioritises self-reliance over relationship, who rarely shows that they are affected, can look capable and certain. But the refusal to love openly is not strength. It is often the management of a fear of what love costs.

What Love as a value actually requires.

It requires the willingness to be changed by another person: to allow what matters to them to matter to you, to let their difficulty be something you are genuinely present for. That is more demanding than most people realise, and more valuable than most people allow themselves to give.

The 5 lenses   Love
Five ways to look at one value. Work through all five, and write your answers in your workbook as you go.
Lens 1   Meaning
What does Love actually mean to you right now?

Think about the last time this value was fully present in your life. What did it feel like and what did it make possible? Now think about where it is absent today. Write down the difference between those two states as specifically as you can.

Lens 2   Expression
Where does your love show up and where do you bury it?

When does this value show up in you naturally and without effort? When do you suppress it because it feels unsafe or too much? Notice the gap between those two answers. That gap is where this week’s work lives.

Lens 3   Purpose
Why does Love matter in your life specifically right now?

If this value were fully alive in you, what would change at work? What would change at home? What decision that you have been avoiding would suddenly become clear? Be specific. Generalities do not move anything.

Lens 4   What it unlocks
What becomes possible when Love is fully alive in you?

This value is not an end in itself. It is a door. When you live it fully, what does it open? What relationships become easier? What version of yourself shows up that is not yet fully present?

Lens 5   What happens without it
What does the absence of Love cost you in concrete terms?

Do not soften this. Where in your life right now is the absence of this value creating friction, distance, or stagnation? Name it precisely. The clearer you are about the cost, the more motivated you will be to do the actual work this week.

Critical situation   What to look for
Love — recognize it under real pressure.

Watch for this: you are tired, stretched thin, and the person in front of you needs the honest version of you, not the performed one. Real Love shows up in how you treat someone when you have nothing left to give, not in how you treat them when it costs you nothing.

AI Coaching Session   Week 6   Love   © CoachingAndLife
Your personal coaching conversation starts here.

This is a guided conversation, not a quiz. The AI will open warmly, ask you real questions, and follow your answers. There are no right responses. Speak from where you actually are today, not from who you think you should be. The conversation will take 10 to 20 minutes and it will go at your pace.
